Woman dies after car hits her on S.W. Wanamaker

In separate crash, one car rolls over at I-470 and Burlingame Road

Topeka police said a woman died Saturday night after a car struck her on S.W. Wanamaker.

The woman was crossing S.W. Wanamaker from west to east about 5:40 p.m. in the 1100 block, near S.W. Huntoon, when she was struck by a northbound vehicle, Police Lt. Shane Hilton said.

The woman, whose identity wasn’t immediately released, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, Hilton said. At the hospital, she was pronounced dead.

Information about the vehicle involved wasn’t available.

An accident reconstruction team was on scene after 8:30 p.m. investigating. Hilton said the street would remain blocked in that area until the investigation was complete.

Separately, at least one person was taken to a hospital after a car flipped over at Interstate 470 and S.W. Burlingame Road just before 5:30 p.m., a Shawnee County dispatcher said. Injuries weren’t known.
