Fireplace sparked Harrisonville apartment fire

Displaced families looking for help

Firefighters have determined a fire an apartment complex in Harrisonville started in a fireplace. Crews told KMBC they were called to the scene in the Twin Oaks Apartments at Twin Oaks Drive and Mission Road about 4:00 p.m Thursday after someone reported seeing flames coming from a building. There were no immediate reports of injuries, but firefighters said about 60 residents have been displaced by the fire. Twin Oaks is a complex of garden and low-rise apartment buildings and several of those buildings burned. Investigators said the wind blew embers from the building where the fire started onto the roofs of five other buildings. One of the victims is offering to store any donations. You can email her if you would like to help.
