Wolf Pack women's basketball player arrested for DUI

Janelle Sumilong, a player on the Wolf Pack basketball team, was arrested on two charges Monday morning.

Janelle Sumilong, a 19-year-old member of the Nevada women's basketball team, was arrested early Monday morning on two misdemeanor charges, including driving under the influence.

Sumilong was arrested by the Nevada Highway Patrol at 2:17 a.m. Monday and booked by Washoe County Sheriff's Office. Her bail was set at $0 and she had not been released as of Monday at 8 a.m.

Per the WCSO booking report, it is the first DUI charge for Sumilong, who also was charged with "failure to decrease speed/use due care." Both are misdemeanors.

"We are aware of the incident and are gathering more information at this time," a department spokesperson said in a statement to the RGJ. "We will handle disciplinary measures once all the facts are known."

Sumilong, a 5-foot-8 guard from Hanford, Calif., was a freshman at Nevada last season. She played in 29 of the team's 36 games during her rookie season, starting two. She averaged 2.4 points, 0.9 rebounds and shot 34.1 percent from the field.
