Strange Music signee Murs has resurrected the rowdy single “Rick Grimes Is Dead” in a Walking Dead-inspired short film that features lots of zombies and gore. As a longtime fan of the comic book and television program, the Los Angeles rapper thought it was prime season to showcase his affinity for the franchise.

“I thought the game could use a fun, Hip Hop style, Halloween-type video,” Murs explained in a press release. “I wanted people who don’t watch Walking Dead and who aren’t into zombies to relate. It’s also rare that I make a song that you can dance to like that. It’s got zombies and strippers! When will I ever have a chance to pull this off again?”

Murs was apparently drawn to Robert Kirkman’s independently-released comic years ago and suffered from panic attacks the first few times he read it. “I was like, ‘Man, this is something that’s literally just pencil, ink and paper and it’s scaring the shit out of me,'” he said. “I was drawn to it and it was something that I felt I had to overcome. Once the show came out, I was drawn to the comic even more.”

“Rick Grimes Is Dead” follows Murs setting the world record for rapping for more than 24 hours straight. While Murs is proud of the achievement, he was anxious get back to his normal routine. “I’m not a marathon rapper for a living,” he said, “so I’m happy to be back doing shows, making videos and working on my next album.”

Murs is currently working on his forthcoming album, Captain California. The album marks a resurrection of sorts for Murs, who has returned to Los Angeles after living in Tucson, Arizona for a few years. He has plans to relaunch his popular Paid Dues festival around the same time Captain California arrives.
