Cam Johnson (Pitt Transfer) Removes Michigan from List
Hate to be the provider of bad news on Friday, but one of Michigan's top transfer targets eliminated Michigan from his final list.

Still feel like they'll end up with the dude from Howard, but that's just a total guess.

Can't blame him given he didn;t have a firm offer from Michigan and I imagine he had ones from other schools.

Could come back to bite Beilein big time. I think it's pretty well assumed he's not coming to Michigan. If you have an opportunity to grab one of these top-flight grad transfers now, do it.

This is the moment when half the internet crowd will throw shade at JB for holding the scholarship for Bamba, then the same half will throw more shade if Bamba doesn't commit. The internet is a tough place.

I posted damn near the same comment a few weeks ago and everyone agreed.
because you might have received a handful of upvotes then and are getting downvotes now but context (thread) matters a great deal. Certain users with certain attitudes will be in different threads in larger proportions than others. To assume your posts in different contexts at different times are being read and responded to by a representative sample of the fanbase or even of the community is a mistake.
The internet: distorting reality like never before.

In this scenario, the same 50% will probably claim that JB can't close the deal. I get it. But it's still a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario that the internet too easily screams about.
There is probably a vocal crowd pissed at JB for developing Wagner and Wilson too quickly - should've held back on the coaching a little to make them less attractive to the NBA. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

So it's not ok to criticise Beilein? I think it's acceptable to be dissatisfied with having to make do with 2/3*'s every year, yet be impressed at our coach's ability to win games. And hope he continues to win games.
I'll freely admit that I would like an occasional 5*. I'm certainly not alone. And since Beilein is accountable for recruiting, he is accountable for perceived failures. I'm not bitching. That's just me wanting more better talent.
At the same time, I think I've sung Beilein's well deserved praises more often than I've 'bitched' but there may be some generational aversion to criticism at play here.
therefore, beilien did a good job and is good at coaching.
hopefully, coach beilein at age 64 years, will not retire, but will win games during entire season and will begin to recruit better 17 and 18 years olds than he usually does.

now your just making shit up

You can't do that unless we literally have absolutely no shot at him. If you even have a 20 percent shot, you have to keep that slot.
April 21st, 2017 at 12:37 PM ^
So why would you spin the wheel at a 1/50 chance when you can get a proven grad transfer?

But there are PLENTY of other solid grad transfer options that I'd take now vs the miniscule chance Bamba signs with Michigan.
first choice among the grad transfers. I think it will be a PG or combo guard. There are a few good candidates. Jaaron Simmons from Ohio U would not surprise me.

Any news on the guy from Wright State? Looks better than the guy from Howard, but it's hard to tell because the guy from Howard had to play hero ball.
April 21st, 2017 at 12:33 PM ^
...along for there to be any news re: him.
might be better to not get any news from him re: Michigan for a while because ideally he's very close to being draftable but not quite and and then decides to go to Michigan. If he's that close, he probably wouldn't decide on a fifth year until the very end.

Don't worry. At least there will be some open scholarships for the walkons again.
April 21st, 2017 at 11:55 AM ^
I have a feeling Beilein is exploring his options rather thoroughly, but let's face it, how crazy would this board go if there was no longer a spot for Bamba as long as there was even a glimmer of hope for him coming here?

I've heard Texas/UK......huge gap......MIchigan/Duke.

That had his quotes about why he's choosing each school, forget where it is.
But yeah, Texas confuses me.
April 21st, 2017 at 12:33 PM ^
It's the second largest state in the union. They like to think they are their own country, but its not that great.
April 21st, 2017 at 12:58 PM ^
+1 Informative
Big Bend National Park, Austin, San Antonio, Numerous large lakes, Hill country, Good Barbecue, Red Dirt Country Music.
I admit Texas pride can get a little irritating, but it's a nice state.

Smart is the major reason he's interested in Texas.
and if he has us in his top 4, why would that be any weirder than having us top 4? In fact it's less weird. Neither school is regionally that close and we're the bigger head-scratcher if recent history is any indication of five star willingness to go to each school. We haven't had a McD's all-american in forever. Texas gets them far more regularly.
I mean, Eric Davis was a McD's All-American from Saginaw that chose Texas over Michigan, fergodsakes (caveat I don't claim to know the details of our interest but he lists an offer from us so the point remains that Texas got a McDs all-american from MI with a UM offer to go there, although maybe a good thing as he had a TERRIBLE year as a soph).
has never shown an ability to develop a long big's inside outside game, which is what Bamba says he'd like to do, and Beilein and Co. just developed two big men from somewhat to completely under the radar into legit NBA prospects?
The fuck is wrong with you talking down our program like that?

Possibly there is a silver lining. Perhaps Wilson notified Beilein that he intends to return for another year. A man can always dream.

I would have to imagine that info would come out pretty quick.
Neither him or Wagner are ready.

Michigan only has one scholarship so this isn't surprising.
April 21st, 2017 at 12:24 PM ^
There's a very good chance they have 2 though. If it was for sure just 1 I don't think anyone would have a problem with it.
April 21st, 2017 at 12:23 PM ^
I'm hoping they don't get left hanging in the breeze. Hopefully they pick up a transfer from somewhere that can contribute and one of Wagner and Wilson return. I doubt Bamba picks UM.
April 21st, 2017 at 12:25 PM ^
If a guy like Alstork says to Beilein that he'll commit today, pick up the phone, tell Bamba that he's got a guy that's going to join now, is there any chance you are coming here.
April 21st, 2017 at 12:35 PM ^
...until he knows/thinks he won't be drafted. His preference is to stay in the draft.
April 21st, 2017 at 12:32 PM ^
This totally means we are getting Bamba!
I wish but as it is right now I see no insiders who think Bamba is coming to UM
