Boost Mobile signs new five-year deal with Telstra

By

A renewed retail agreement between Boost Mobile and Telstra "highlights the important role for Boost Mobile in Telstra’s multi-brand strategy" and sees Boost continue using Telstra's superior network.

Although it appears that Boost Mobile still doesn't have access to Telstra's faster "4GX" network, nor is there any word of access to Telstra's upcoming 5G network technologies, Boost Mobile has nevertheless signed a new five-year deal for continued access to Telstra's network.

Boost Mobile proudly boasts of being "the world’s largest youth telco brand globally after being founded in Australia in 2000", and says the new deal "will ensure its customers continue to receive great mobile network coverage, competitive data plans, no lock-in contracts and great service" for many more years to come.

We're also reminded that the announcement "comes off the back of a successful five-year relationship, and will see Boost Mobile continue to play a key role in Telstra’s multi-brand strategy, moving forward".

The company notes having "successfully carved out an important niche in the hearts and minds of young Australians, with extended reach through the subcultures of music and lifestyle sports including skateboarding and surfing".

We're told that such a position was "reinforced with the recent launch of enhanced Boost Anytime Plus pre-paid plans, that have seen an increase to data inclusions on recharges of $20 and above, including an extra 8GB of data on the $50 Boost Anytime Plus recharge now 20GB with every recharge".

On top of this came the addition of "100 minutes of calls from Australia to standard International numbers in 50 eligible destinations now included for $30 recharges and above, to allow Boost Mobile customers to get connected with family and friends overseas".

And, for those on baseline plans, Boost says "the $15 add-on has also seen improvement with the addition of 100 minutes and 100 texts from Australia to standard International numbers across 40 eligible destinations".

As you'd expect, Boost Mobile states it is "committed to offering its customers MORE of what they want, including data and coverage, as well as teaming up with Australia’s hottest artists, athletes, events and championships, to ensure customers get MORE rewards, content and VIP access".

Peter Adderton, Boost Mobile founder and director, said: "Today’s announcement cements Boost Mobile as a core pillar of Telstra’s multi-brand strategy, and is recognition of our position as a brand that is immersed in youth culture. We know what our customers want, because we are part of their community and have been for many years now, and are dedicated to giving them the connectivity they need for their everyday adventures.

“We are now a global, multi-billion dollar brand but never forget that it all started in Australia, which remains an important market of focus for us.

"Today’s news ensures we can continue to offer customers access to a network powered by Telstra, with our plans that address their specific needs, wants and desires. We appreciate the ongoing and ever-growing relationship we share with Telstra, and their desire to embrace and grow with Boost Mobile," Adderton added.

So, given that a five-year deal takes us to around 2022 (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 makes five years), perhaps Boost will spring 4GX capability on its users sometime in 2021, in the same way that Boost Mobile was once 3G only but finally went 4G, well before Telstra-powered MVNOs in late September 2015, by which time Telstra should have the biggest and best 5G network in the country.

We'll just have to wait and see, but in the meantime, Boost's place within Telstra's roost has now been deduced and has produced what should be customers, employees and all concerned being happily primed, pumped and juiced.
