Abstract:

  1. Research in psychology has demonstrated positive cognitive and differential neural consequences of bilingualism in children and adults. For educators, these findings may not always be transparent because of the different contexts between research and practice. In this chapter, the authors take a first stepĀ towards creating a bridge between research findings on language learning and bilingualism and the contexts in which learning occurs across the lifespan, in classrooms and beyond. This chapter serves as a starting point in facilitating cross-disciplinary discussions on improving learning support for children and adults of all language backgrounds.
