SINGAPORE - A 20-year-old woman has been arrested for being involved in multiple cases of online purchase scams, including offering discounted tickets to the Universal Studios Singapore theme park, as well as Coldplay and Ed Sheeran concerts.

She is believed to be involved in more than 10 cases of cheating, with the Police receiving several reports between Feb 14, 2016, and Wednesday (May 17) from victims of the alleged scams, said the Singapore Police Force in a media release on Tuesday (May 23).

Officers from Tanglin Police Division nabbed the suspect on Friday along Kampong Java Road after conducting extensive investigations to establish her identity.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Anyone found guilty of cheating may be punished with up to 10 years' of jail time and a fine.

The release also gave the following tips to members of the public to avoid falling prey to online purchase scams:

- Make your online purchases from reputable vendors only;

- Transact with only people you know and trust if advance payments are necessary;

- Be mindful that scammers may use a local bank account for the transaction to enhance their credibility, so the owner of the bank account may not be the person communicating with you online;

- Check that the person or company you are buying from is physically located where they claim to be;

- Never give out your bank account numbers, credit card numbers and personal information to anyone you do not know or have not checked out;

- Do not provide any information that is not necessary to make the purchase.
