Seattle cyclist killed in Oregon crash

REDMOND, Oregon. -- A 32-year-old Seattle woman was killed in a bicycle crash near here Wednesday morning.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office says the body of the cyclist, identified as Katie Jenks, 32, was discovered by passing motorists Wednesday morning on Lower Bridge Way near Borden Beck Wildlife Preserve.

Firefighters from Redmond and deputies arrived and determined she was dead.

The Sheriff's Office says she was traveling west when she went off the westbound shoulder and suffered fatal injuries on the shoulder.

There were no witnesses to the crash, and the Sheriff's Office said a vehicle or other obstruction wasn't involved.

There may have been a mechanical issue with her bicycle, the Sheriff's Office said.

She was not wearing a helmet.
