The ‘Legends of Chamberlain Heights’ Is Back, and Still Raunchy
Admirers of Comedy Central’s ribald “Legends of Chamberlain Heights” might have watched the 10th episode in December and assumed it was the last. The animated series is about three high school freshmen who aspire to basketball glory, and the perks that come with it, but don’t want to do the work of serious athletes. They spent the series riding the bench until, in that first season’s finale, one of them, Grover (voiced by Josiah Johnson), was called upon to shoot a pivotal free throw, which he made.
But that apparently wasn’t the feel-good end of the boys’ story, because the series returns for a second season on Sunday, June 18, promising more of its improbable mix of raunchiness and sharp social commentary. The finale, for instance, managed to hit subjects like the inequities between public utilities’ handling of black neighborhoods versus white ones.
