If you are ready to grind your own dry rub for summer barbecues, here is a basic gadget from Sweden, almost Paleolithic in its simplicity, that is up to the task. Put whole spices in this cast-iron container, add the matching cup and turn it to grind. The weight and the rough-textured iron are enough to break down the spices. You can then store or serve your freshly ground seasoning in the cup, which has a cork stopper: Skeppshult Cast-Iron Spice Grinder, $58, healdsburgshed.com.
