Details

Join us in downtown Austin! This month's meetup will be hosted at the Galvanize (http://www.galvanize.com/campuses/austin-2nd-street-district/) campus in the 2nd street district.

There may or may not be food, but will definitely be enlightenment. We'll be migrating over to the Gingerman (http://thegingerman.com/austin/) for an informal social event after the night's talks. This month's lineup is:

Ember in Salesforce

Salesforce is the world’s largest CRM platform that is used by over 150,000+ companies. Salesforce follows an 80/20 rule giving companies the ability to tailor 80% of the platform using configuration (clicks vs. code), leaving the additional 20% for customizations through code and integrations. Despite Salesforce’s success with this model, the “code” side of the platform leaves little to be desired. This is especially true when dealing with custom client-side UI within the platform.

Developing and rendering custom html pages within Salesforce will take you back to the early 2000’s when you had to hop from html page to html page in order to have a multi-page app. These html pages are also rendered using Salesforce’s rendering engine which prevents you from using modern front-end build tools (cli’s) to build dynamic UI’s. That all changes today as we discuss how we can host an Ember application in Salesforce while at the same time, getting around some very interesting platform limitations.

Michael Penrod is currently working for Vivint.SmartHome as a Senior Software Engineer. He got started in his career as a developer in the Air Force where he served for 7 years and started learning to code halfway through. He has been developing for roughly 5 years now, primarily in the role of a full-stack developer working on the whole spectrum from the client to the database. He primarily uses the Microsoft stack at work (SQL Server, .Net Framework) with a little Ember mixed in for the client side. His personal projects are mostly developed in node.js, some flavor of nosql database, and Ember again for the client side.

He loves programming and considers it a hobby just as much as he considers it work. When he's not ripping his hair out over a piece of code (which is rare), you’ll either find him at the gym, rocking out on the guitar, or eating spicy food. He has a gorgeous wife, 3 awesome sons, and they have a lot of fun together going to the movies or the pool.

Don't forget to thank our wonderful sponsors!

We'd like to give a big hug to our venue sponsor, Galvanize (http://www.galvanize.com/campuses/austin-2nd-street-district/), for hooking us up with a super sweet downtown location. We're incredibly excited about the space!

Parking

There is a paid garage in the Galvanize building that has reasonable prices after hours. We also recommend taking public transit, looking for street parking, parking in the surface lot at Guadalupe and 3rd or using the City Hall or Violet Crown parking garages.

How to find us in the Galvanize building

Take the elevator to the second floor to check in at the front desk. They will direct you to the correct lecture space.

We'd love to hear from you!
