Big 12 to Host NCAA Division I Women's Basketball 2011 Dallas Regional

The Big 12 Conference has been selected to host the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship 2011 Dallas Regional, announced the Division I Women's Basketball Selection Committee.

The event will be played at the American Airlines Center on March 27 and 29, 2011.

"We are excited to host a 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball Regional in Dallas," said Phillip Jones, president and CEO, Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau. "It gives us the opportunity to showcase Dallas' amenities, accommodations and attractions to basketball fans from across the U.S. Dallas has built an impressive resume as a sports city, and hosting events of this magnitude help support our positioning of  Dallas as one of the leading event and visitor destinations in the nation."

The Dallas site will mark the Big 12's fourth consecutive year of hosting Regional rounds after the 2008 and 2009 Oklahoma City Regionals, and the 2010 Kansas City Regional. Both Oklahoma City events recorded the largest attendance of the four Regional sites. The Conference also hosted the 1998 Women's Final Four in Kansas City.

"We are extremely excited to once again be chosen as an NCAA Regional host," said Dru Hancock, Big 12 senior associate commissioner. "From our previous years we know what a unique experience it is for the participating teams and are honored to continue to play a role in it. The city of Dallas and the American Airlines Center have a strong tradition of hosting athletic events and will be a fantastic site for the 2011 Dallas Regional."

In addition to the Conference office, Baylor was chosen to host 2011 first and second rounds at the Ferrell Center in Waco.

Information on the 2011 Dallas Regional will be posted on Big12Sports.com as it becomes available.
