Griffin and Griner named Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Kelsey Griffin (Nebraska) and Brittney Griner (Baylor) were named Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week by a media voting panel for games from Dec. 14-20. Griffin (player) earned her sixth career award while Griner (freshman) was recognized for the third time this season.

Kelsey Griffin scored 30 points and pulled down a career-high matching 14 rebounds to lead No. 20/18 Nebraska past No. 5/9 LSU 77-63 in Lincoln on Sunday. She hit 6-of-9 free throws while adding an assist, a steal and a block with just one turnover in a career-high 36 minutes of play. Griffin was a perfect 7-for-7 in the first half and recorded six rebounds as the Cornhuskers jumped out to a 21-4 lead. The 30-point performance was her second of the season and third of her career, while her 14 rebounds marked her third straight game and sixth game this season with double-figure boards. The victory gave Nebraska its best start in school history at 11-0, as well as longest winning streak. In addition it was the Huskers' second win over a Top 5 team in program history.

Phillips 66 Big 12 Freshman of the Week
Brittney Griner, Baylor, P, Houston, Texas

Brittney Griner led No. 6/5 Baylor in scoring, rebounding and blocks in its three victories last week. The 6-8 post averaged 26.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and 9.0 blocks against Oral Roberts, Gonzaga and No. 14/13 Arizona State. She also recorded the program's first triple double with a career-high 34 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocks vs. ORU. The 11 blocks set Big 12 and BU records for blocks in a game. Griner narrowly missed two more triple-doubles, coming up two blocks shy against both Gonzaga and Arizona State. She tallied 18 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks against Gonzaga and recorded 27 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks against the Sun Devils. For the week Griner shot 62.7 percent (32-51) from the floor and 71.4 percent (15-21) from the charity stripe. Her 77 blocks on the season are 10 away from breaking former Lady Bear Danielle Wilson's single-season record of 86.
