Game Notes

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. –
Eastern Kentucky’s women’s basketball team will take to the road looking to keep its Ohio Valley Conference winning streak alive. The Lady Colonels (7-6) are 4-0 in the OVC for the first time since beginning the conference slate 6-0 in 2002-03.

EKU will play at Jacksonville State on Thursday. Tip-off at Pete Mathews Coliseum is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET. The game will air live in the Richmond area on WEKY 1340 AM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.

Eastern Kentucky is in the middle of a streak of four games in eight days. The Lady Colonels beat Tennessee State on Saturday before edging Austin Peay 61-54 in overtime on Monday. The road trip concludes at Tennessee Tech on Saturday.

Junior Talisha Davis scored a game-high 21 points to lead EKU past the Lady Govs. APSU scored with 13 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, but the Lady Colonels used an 8-0 run to take control in the extra frame. Freshman Michaelea Kleist registered a career-best 14 points to go along with five rebounds for Eastern. Freshman Brittany Coles contributed 10 points and six boards. Freshman Alex Jones posted eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Colonels have held seven of their last eight opponents to 60 points or less and have now out-rebounded nine of their 13 opponents this season.

This is the 16th meeting between Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville State. EKU leads the all-time series 12-3, and has won five of the last six against JSU.

Jacksonville State stands 3-10 overall and 0-3 in the OVC entering Thursday’s game against the Lady Colonels. After welcoming back all five starters from last season the Gamecocks were picked to finish fifth in the league this season. Jacksonville State lost six straight to start the season. JSU opened conference play with a home court loss to Tennessee Tech and then dropped road games at Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri.

JSU has found trouble scoring this season. No Gamecock averages more than 8.2 points per game, but six players average six points or more. As a team, Jacksonville State averages 54.9 points per game.

The Gamecocks allow their opponents to shoot 42 percent from the field and give up 67.1 points per game.

Sophomore Brittany Wiley leads the team in scoring (8.2 ppg) and rebounding (4.8 rpg). Wiley and senior Jolie Efezokhae were selected to the preseason All-OVC team before the season. Efezokhae has started just two games and is averaging 6.3 points per game.
