PHILADELPHIA (1/5/10) - Sophomore Devona Allgood had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Princeton women's basketball team to a 68-49 win over La Salle on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at Tom Gola Arena.

The Tigers improve to 12-2 overall and with today's win set a program record for most non-conference wins since Ivy League play began in 1979-80.

"That wasn't pretty, but it was gritty," head coach Courtney Banghart said. "It was a really solid effort defensively and I thought we battled really hard and we used contributions from a variety of people. I'm so proud of Devona. She was a force on both ends and she continues to develop her all-around game."

It was a packed house as La Salle hosted over 1,500 local elementary school kids as part of Elementary School Day, explaining the noon start time.

Princeton held La Salle to 1 for 14 shooting in the first 10 minutes of the game as the Tigers grabbed a 20-2 lead. Freshman Niveen Rasheed led the charge with six points, while Allgood and Lauren Edwards had five points each.

A layup by Danielle Mickiewicz at 9:50 sparked the Explorers' offense, as the team went on a 23-8 run over the next seven minutes to make it a one-possession game, 28-25. Nine of those 23 points came from the free-throw line, as the Explorers shot 9 for 9 from the line.

Senior Tani Brown started to get the Tigers back on the right track when she hit a jumper near the home bench and junior Addie Micir followed with a three-ball. Allgood added a layup in the final 30 seconds of the first half to give Princeton a 35-25 edge as the teams headed for the locker room.

An errant fire alarm that went off at halftime continued into the second half, as both coaches agreed to play through it. It didn't seem to bother either team as they traded baskets before the alarm went off three minutes into the half.

The Tigers took a 10-3 run en route to a 15-point lead, 47-32 at 11:08, with freshman Kate Miller scoring six of those 10 points.

La Salle would only get as close as 12 on two occasions.

Princeton grabbed an 18-point lead, its largest lead since the middle of the first half, at 2:02 on a layup by Rasheed.

A three-pointer by Johnson with 1:33 to play gave Princeton its largest lead of the game, 68-47. Ebonee Jones went 2 for 2 from the free-throw line to close out the game, 68-49.

Rasheed added 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals to the box score for the Tigers. Miller had nine points and Edwards had eight. Freshman Lauren Polansky had four assists, while picking up four points and two boards. Princeton shot 44.6 percent overall, and 50 percent from both the free-throw line and behind the arc.

Jamie Walsh led the Explorers with 13 points and three assists. Morgan Robertson had 10 points and five rebounds, while Mickiewicz led the team on the glass with six rebounds and finished with six points. La Salle shot 28.8 percent from the floor (15-52), was 93.3 percent from the line and 27.8 percent from long range.

The Tigers begin Ivy League play on Saturday, Jan. 9 at Penn at 7 p.m.
