Box Score

Philadelphia -
With time winding down in overtime sophomore guard Marisa Crane drove down the left side of the lane and put up a jump shot over a pair of Delaware defenders that found its way through the net with three seconds on the clock to give the Dragons their second overtime win of the season against Delaware 60-58.  Drexel (14-6, 8-1) led by as much as 14 points in the second period before Delaware (13-7, 5-4) rallied to send it to overtime on jumper by Elena Delle Donne with 11 seconds in regulation. Delle Donne led all scorers with 31 points. Gabriela Marginean led the Dragons with 20 points and six rebounds in front of a sell-out crowd at the DAC.

A jumper by Delle Donne with a minute remaining in regulation completed a 21-8 run and put Delaware on top 50-49. But Jasmina Rosseel responded with a long three-pointer in front of the Drexel bench with 32 seconds on the clock to put Drexel on top 52-50 and send the capacity crowd into a frenzy.

Delle Donne evened it with a jumper in the lane with 11.2 seconds on the clock to knot it at 52 all and send the Dragons into overtime for a second straight game and the third time this season.

Delaware opened the extra stanza with four straight free throws by Tesia Harris, who finished with 10 points and seven boards, to take a 56-52 lead. Marginean squared the scored on a driving layup against a host of Delaware defenders and a pair of free-throws after a holding foul whistled on the Hens.

With the score tied at 56-56 Crane backed her way into the left block and hit a cutting Tyler Hale with a well-timed bounce pass for a layup that put the Dragons on top with 1:35 to play. Delle Donne responded with another jump shot in the lane with 27.3 seconds on the clock, which allowed Drexel to set up a play for Crane's game-winning shot.

Crane led the Dragons with seven assists, one shy of her season high, and four points -none larger than her final offering. Rosseel drained four three-pointers en route to 16 points. As a team the Dragons made nine three-pointers and shot 33.3 percent from the floor in the contest.

Delle Donne scored more than half of Delaware's 58 points, and also pulled down 11 rebounds. She was joined in double-figure scoring by Harris and Lauren Carra. The Blue Hens out-rebounded Drexel 48-33 and 18-11 on the offensive glass.

Drexel employed a trapping full-court defense for the later portion of the first half and the start of the second. The defensive intensity set the tone for the Dragons, as the team forced 21 turnovers and converted them in to 24 points.

This aggressive play helped ignite an 17-2 run to open the second half, after Drexel trailed 27-26 at halftime.  Crane scooped up a loose ball around half court and threaded a bounce pass to hit Rosseel in stride for a break-away layup that capped the run and put Drexel ahead 43-29 at the 12:37 mark in the half.

But from that point, Drexel would connect on only two shots from the floor in the next 9:50. The Dragons' cold shooting allowed Delaware to peck away at Drexel's substantial lead until Delle Donne's jumper at the minute mark put the Blue Hens back ahead for the first time in the period.

The victory was the Dragons' 18th straight CAA win at the DAC and it came in front of the largest crowd to watch a women's basketball game at Drexel. The Dragons have now won six straight games and remain in first place in the CAA standings with an 8-1 conference record. Drexel has won 10 of it's last 11 overtime games dating back to the 2006-07 season.

The Dragons hit the road next week for a two-game swing, playing at Towson on Thursday, Feb. 4 before traveling to Harrisonburg, Va. to face James Madison at the site of their 2009 CAA Tournament championship game.
