PHILADELPHIA – Kristen McCarthy led all players with 22 points as Temple women's basketball defeated visiting George Washington 61-51 in the Owls' final regular season game. TU is now 22-7 overall and finished A-10 play with a record of 11-3.

Temple tied with Dayton for second place in the conference, but will be the #3 seed by virtue of the Owls' loss to Dayton. In the A-10 Tournament, TU will face the winner of #6 Duquesne vs. #11 George Washington on Saturday, March 6 at 8:00 p.m. The tournament will be held at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md.

McCarthy added eight rebounds to her game-high 22 points, and tallied two steals. Jasmine Stone scored 13 points and recorded three blocks, and Natasha Thames came off the bench to grab a game-high 10 rebounds.

LaKeisha Eaddy dished out a game-high six assists, and got a steal to tie the all-time record at Temple with 237 career steals. Eaddy, Stone and Kristie Watkins-Day were honored prior to tip-off as part of Senior Day, as the three played in the final home game of their careers.

The Owls led 11-0 early on, but it proved not to be an indication of how the game would go. By the midway point of the first half GW had narrowed the margin to three, 18-15, and the Colonials went on to lead by two, 24-22 with 4:46 remaining.

From there, Stone and McCarthy combined for 11 points as the Owls closed the half on a 12-2 run to lead 34-26 at the break.

GW got 20 attempts at the free throw line in the second half as foul trouble proved costly for the Owls. Temple led throughout the half, but the Colonials came within four around the 11-minute mark. The Owls led by 13 with 5:10 remaining before a 5-0 run by GW put the margin at eight, but it was as close as the Colonials would get.
