So in case your not sure, all I'm saying is if you are looking for a new Router, buy this one, NOW, what are you waiting for.
update 09/08/12
I had this router for 8 months now I had to restart for this first time a few days ago not because my router was giving me problems, my modem failed me and I had to restart it. I am so happy with this router I am buying another one thank you ASUS for the great product.
Update was successful and then I proceeded to configure the router. It worked well for few hours and then I noticed I lost connection. I waited few minutes but the signal didn't come back; I had to restart it. Over the last few weeks it has been the same everytime I used it; the router works for few hours and then drops the signal. Today it has gotten worse; I restarted the router, I see the signal, but I get no IP assigned to my laptop (tablet and phone also impacted). The connection diagnostic of the laptop says DHCP is not working, which makes sense-I manually set the IP and I am able to browse. Something is wrong with this unit! Time to return it.
UPDATE: 1/16/2013
I received a replacement from Amazon last week and after having performed the firmware update I can report that this unit is working. I have not noticed any connection drops.
As a followup to my review after I received the unit, I now find that the ASUS RT-N12/B1 has a short-term reliability problem. Initially, for movies and U-Tube videos I was getting a download speed of 2.4-2.8 mb/s (I have ATT U-Verse Pro which runs at 3.0 mb/s max.). This was very good - no pauses in the downloads. In mid-February, the download speeds dropped to the 0.8-1.2 mb/s range with it sometimes dropping to 0.5 mb/s. After a reset and a new setup procedure, there was no improvement in the download performance. Although the signal strength is in the 95-100% range, the download circuitry appears to be encapable of handling the volume involved with video downloads. The unit now pauses every few seconds to load more of the video data. The unit is simply not worth the frustration. To eliminate the possibility of another piece of equipment being the problem, I moved my Sony BDP-BX58 Blu-Ray DVD Player with built-in wireless + video apps and a TV close to the ATT U-Versus wireless modem. With downloads coming directly from the U-Verse wireless modem, I got continuous download rates of 2.8 mb/s. This isolated the problem to the ASUS RT-N12/B1. I do not recommend the ASUS RT-N12/B1 for purchase.
Amazon only offers a 30 day warranty on this type of electronic equipment and as such is basically worthless. For electronic equipment, I cannot recommend Amazon as a good source. They simply to do not offer adequate protection for their customers on these types of products.

It can run Tomato or openwrt transforming it into a very capable router. Didn't try the Asus firmware much, I flashed it right away.
It lacks a GigE switch but you can hook one up to the router and enjoy gigabit file transfers between your wired computers. I got my GigE switch for 10$ used.
It cannot tag VLAN packets: Beware Bell FTTH users, you need to tag internet with VID35 and TV with VID36 if you want to PPPoE with the router. A solution is to hook it up to the Sagemcom and have the router do the PPPoE. The Sagemcom will tag the internet packets automatically.
OpenVPN client throughput if low, I can achieve 40mbits from my laptop to my OpenVPN server but only 7bmits when using the Tomato's client on the router.
TL;DR: If you don't have the money for a RT-N16 then this router is a very capable one well worth the money.
