MWC 2012: Nokia announces the Nokia 808 PureView with a 41MP camera

The first time I ever heard about the Mobile World Congress was about two years ago. This is only the 2nd MWC that I ever went by after the day I started blogging about these tech stuffs. I know, two MWCs ain't enough to prove that I know a lot about the event or even talk about its tradition and whatnot. But base on last year's MWC, what I expected, apparently, are smartphones and tablets galore! Androids here and there! And of course, a lot of blogging to do. MWC 2012 did not fail me, my expectation was the same and my goodness did this year pumped out a lot of devices. Well, maybe not too many compared last year but I did not count. Anyway, one particular phone maker at last year's MWC was a bit quiet, Nokia. This year? Well, they have a new CEO, and let me say this again, Nokia is back in business.

The Finnish phone maker has announced not a lot of smartphones. They only really announced the Lumia 610 (The Lumia 900 is basically just re-announced, but this time for the global market), a Windows Phone device, and two feature phones, the Asha 202/203 & the Asha 302. Boring right? They must have been working on something and focused their attention to only pump out a few devices. So, what's up with them?

Nokia has unveiled at MWC 2012 their crowning-glory, so far, the Nokia 808 PureView. The Nokia 808 PureView, apparently, runs on Symbian Belle, as seen in the photo. Disappointed already? Don't, because this smartphone can take photos like a DSLR. How? By putting a 41MP Carl Zeiss lens.

Yup! You read it right, a 41 megapixel sensor is stuffed at the rear end of this device. How good are the photos? Just scroll at the bottom of this post for samples shots by the 808 PureView.
"The Nokia 808 PureView features a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology. At standard resolutions (2/3, 5 and 8 megapixels) this means the ability to zoom without loss of clarity and capture seven pixels of information, condensing into one pixel for the sharpest images imaginable. At high-resolution (38 megapixelmaximum) it means the ability to capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards to expose previously unseen levels of details. With superior low-light performance and the ability to save in compact file sizes for sharing in email, MMS, and on social networks, the Nokia 808 PureView makes it possible for anyone to capture professional looking images in any conditions."
There is still no dates about when the smartphone will be launched. You can read the Nokia's full press release here.
