BIG Launcher Permissions Explanation

BIG Launcher is a complex software, which is replacing the basic functions of the phone. Thus it needs lots of system permissions to be able to work. This is the explanation, why do we need them.

Your location
approximate location (network-based)

This permission is needed for SOS function. A SOS SMS contains information about the location of the device. At first we are trying to get the phone's coarse location.

precise location (GPS and network-based)

This permission is needed for SOS function. A SOS SMS contains information about the location of the device. After we get phone's coarse location, we keep searching for more precise location.

Your messages
read your text messages (SMS or MMS)

This permission is needed for SMS messaging. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to show your messages in the enlarged interface.

receive text messages (MMS)

This permission is needed for MMS messaging and MMS notifications. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to react on the incoming messages.

receive text messages (SMS)

This permission is needed for SMS messaging and SMS notifications. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to react on the incoming messages.

send SMS messages

This permission is needed to be able to send any SMS message. It is needed for SMS messaging and for the SOS function.

edit your text messages (SMS or MMS)

This permission is needed for SMS messaging. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to create and edit the messages.

Network communication
view network connections

This permission is needed for Wi-Fi widget to work and for MMS messaging. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to turn on/off the Wi-Fi connection via its widget and to receive MMS.

view Wi-Fi connections

This permission is needed for Wi-Fi widget to work. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to turn on/off the Wi-Fi connection via its widget.

change network connectivity

This permission is needed for Wi-Fi widget to work and for MMS messaging. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to turn on/off the Wi-Fi connection via its widget and to receive MMS.

connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi

This permission is needed for Wi-Fi widget to work. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to turn on/off the Wi-Fi connection via its widget.

full network access

This permission is needed for the connectivity and widgets and for the anonymous usage reporting. BIG Launcher doesn't send any personal information or data.

Your personal information
choose widgets

This permission is needed for the widgets. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to use the external widgets on the buttons.

read your own contact card

This permission is needed for the correct funcionality of the contacts editor.

Phone calls
directly call phone numbers

This permission is needed to be able to dial any contact. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to dial any contact or number.

modify phone state

This permission is needed for Airplane mode widget to work. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to turn on/off the Airplane mode via its widget.

read phone status and identity

This permission is needed for the telephone related functions and for the enlarged GSM signal indicator. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to make calls.

Storage
modify or delete the contents of your USB storage

This permission is needed for saving and loading the preferences.

Your applications information
retrieve running apps

This permission is needed for the applications management. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to manage and hide your apps.

run at startup

This permission is needed for SMS/MMS receiver process to be able to receive messages in the background since the start of the phone.

Bluetooth
pair with Bluetooth devices

This permission is needed for Bluetooth widget to work. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to turn on/off the Bluetooth connection via its widget.

access Bluetooth settings

This permission is needed for Bluetooth widget to work. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to turn on/off the Bluetooth connection via its widget.

Your social information
read your contacts

This permission is needed for the contacts functions. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to display your contacts in the enlarged interface.

modify your contacts

This permission is needed for the contacts functions. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to edit or delete the contacts on the user's request or set the contacts as Starred.

read call log

This permission is needed for the call log. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to show your calls history.

write call log

This permission is needed for the call log. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to add actual calls to your calls history.

Your accounts
find accounts on the device

This permission is needed for the settings management and for the migration from the free demo version to full version.

System tools
set preferred apps

This permission is needed for setting and unsetting the BIG Launcher as a default launcher.

change/intercept network settings and traffic

This permission is needed for MMS receiver to be able to receive MMS messages.

modify system settings

This permission is needed for Airplane mode widget to work. Without it, BIG Launcher wouldn't be able to turn on/off the Airplane mode via its widget.

test access to protected storage

This permission is needed for MMS receiver to be able to receive and store MMS messages.

Affects battery
control vibration

This permission is needed for the haptic feedback functions.

prevent device from sleeping

This permission is needed for SMS/MMS receiver to be able to receive messages while in sleep mode.

Audio settings
change your audio settings

This permission is needed for the SOS function - it enables the loudspeaker for the SOS call. It is also used for the option for automatically turn on the loudspeaker for the outgoing calls.
