Clean air for a strong outdoor industry

Tomorrow, January 26th, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is holding a public hearing in Salt Lake City, Utah, on the topic of air quality. This is a prime opportunity for members of the public to demand clean air for Utah’s communities, businesses, national parks and public lands. As a member of the outdoor industry, and someone who likely enjoys Utah’s unique landscapes, you have a unique voice and view on this issue.

The nitty gritty:
The Clean Air Act requires states to prevent any future, and remedy any existing, human-caused impairment of visibility in national parks and wilderness areas designated as Class I areas. Emissions from the power plants affected by this action cause or contribute to visibility impairment at nine Class I areas including Grand Canyon, Arches, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. EPA is considering two proposals to address these visibility issues: allowing Utah to continue under its plan, or require additional pollution controls on two coal-fired power plants within the state.
