Product Description

Stylish and sexy, Fatal Attraction took audiences to terrifying new heights with its thrilling story of a casual encounter gone terribly awry. This box-office smash was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director (Adrian Lyne—Indecent Proposal, Flashdance). Michael Douglas plays Dan Gallagher, a New York attorney who has a tryst with seductive Alex Forrest (Glenn Close) while his wife (Anne Archer) is away. Dan later shrugs off the affair as a mistake and considers it over. But Alex won’t be ignored. Not now, not tomorrow, not ever…even if it means destroying Dan’s family to keep him.

A GREAT THRILLER WITH A CAREER BEST PERFORMANCE BY THE GLENN CLOSE

A GREAT THRILLER WITH A CAREER BEST PERFORMANCE BY THE GLENN CLOSE
Adrian Lyne's stylish thriller is a highly suspenseful box office mega-hit that was one of the most talked about films of the 80s. It concerns a successful lawyer and family man named Dan Gallagher, terrifically played by Michael Douglas, who has a beautiful loving wife, Beth, endearingly played by Anne Archer in an Oscar nominated turn for Best Supporting Actress, and an adorable little daughter, Ellen, wonderfully played by child actress, Ellen Hamilton Latzen. He seems to have the perfect life. But he foolishly risks it all when he meets Alexandra Forrest, brilliantly played by Glenn Close in an truly chilling and unforgettable performance that earned her an richly deserved Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She is totally predatory and seduces Dan into a weekend of sexual depravity. Dan expects to have his hot fun, and then casually go back to his domestic paradise, but Dan gets more than he bargained for because unbeknownst to him Alex has severe emotional problems and is psychotic. When Dan attempts to go back to his own life, she hounds him and manipulates him into spending more time with her. At first, he gives in, but it quickly becomes apparent that Alex has her own plans. When he tries to go back to his home, she slits her wrists in an attempt to get him to stay. Alex has fallen completely in love with him, and after he helps her past her crisis and leaves, it does not stop, Dan’s life becomes a living nightmare as she becomes insanely obsessed with him, she calls him over and over again and eventually begins her deadly game of cat and mouse by stalking him and terrorizing his family. Astute Oscar nominated direction by Lyne, with solid supporting performances by Ellen Latzen, Fred Gwynne, Stuart Pankin, Ellen Foley, Meg Mundy, and Tom Brennan. Nominated for 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture. Highly recommended.

What a thriller! I won't go into details on the plot. Others have done that already. But what I will do is go over the mistakes Michael Douglas's character Dan Gallagher makes his mistakes.

Mistake #1. This mistake was to have an affair with a woman who he works with. Affairs like this are simply too close for comfort. Alexandra Forrest knew too much about him and thus could use this knowledge against him as she did. Dan would have been better suited picking up a woman who knew nothing about him or gone the old fashioned oldest profession and used a call-girl. He had the money for that.

Mistake #2. He should have worn a condom. It was the 1980s and AIDS was/is not the only STD a man can get from a woman. He had too much education and experience to make a mistake like that. As a result of this he got Alex Forrest pregnant.

Mistake #3. Assuming he made Mistake #1 he should NEVER have gone back to Alexandra's apartment after the first fling. it may well have been too late at that point anyway, but nevertheless, Gallagher should have avoided Alex Forrest like the plague from that point on. By seeing her again he only exacerbated problems for himself.

Mistake #4. Perhaps the biggest mistake that Dan Gallagher made was breaking into Alexandra Forrest's apartment and attempting to kill her. She very well might have been able to get away with all of her previous perfidy had she killed him than and there. Too, she could have slain him and not been charged for that crime. Although who knows it the love triangle would have been unraveled by "New York's Finest." For every Andy Sipowicz in that city there are five or ten Barney Fifes!

Despite all of these mistakes by Michael Douglas's character I really liked the movie and highly recommend it. I'm the 321st person to review this fine Five Star film. Buy it on DVD and you won't be disappointed.

It is totally campy by today's standards, but it caused quite a sensation back in 1987. Glenn Close plays Alex Forrest, a mentally unstable career woman who has a one night stand with Dan Gallagher, a successful husband and father. After two nights of extremely bizarre love making (kitchen sink, anyone?), Dan decides that it is time to call it off for good. Big mistake. Alex Forrester teaches him a lesson he'll never forget...this film is responsible for the term "bunny boiler", by the way. Soon, Dan's wife gets in on the fun, and it all leads up to that disturbing, overwrought - and terribly cliched - climax.

One thing is for sure: you never know who to root for in this film. I go back and forth between Michael Douglas and Glenn Close. I can't decide. I mean, he's the jerk that cheated on his hot wife, knowing that he has a wife and a little girl at home. In a way, I think he deserves it. There are times when I smile with glee as he is forced to suffer the consequences to his actions - Mwahahahaha! But then I think, "Geez, Glenn Close. You're one scary ho! Go on with your power hair, you demented skank! Leave that man alone! What did the rabbit do to you, you whore?! Glenn! Give me the knife! Stop cutting yourself, Glenn! Alright, Anne Archer. Blast her." It's easy to switch allegiances with the characters in this film. That's part of the fun of FATAL ATTRACTION, if you can get past the hilarious love-making scenes, which include Michael Douglas constantly, OBSESSIVELY sucking on Glenn's saggy boobs every chance he gets! EVERY love scene, he goes straight for the boobs. That's all she is to him. Just one big boob to suck. Anyways, if you can get past THAT, then you'll have the time of your life. I wasn't kidding when I said it has camp value, but it is still disturbing as well, don't get me wrong. If I learned one thing by watching this film, it's that I will NEVER, EVER cheat on my wife. EVER. And that's a good thing. I'll bet you anything that this film has saved marriages. After this film, you know why THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTRY is one of the top 10. Whew...

All in all, it's an eighties classic with important moral lessons thrown in with lots of psychotic activity, kidnapping, bunny boiling, and boob sucking.

Adrian Lyne would explore this territory again in 2003's UNFAITHFUL.
