The CMA Awards seem to be a much better fit on Wednesdays. After a Thursday move saw drops in 2012, this year’s annual show was up 24 percent last night with an average 4.7 rating among adults 18-49.
That was enough to score an easy nightly win for the network in both the key demo and total viewers. ABC saw the show rise to a four-year best with 16.6 million viewers, according to fast national returns.

CBS was not dampened by the increased competition. Survivor (2.5 adults) improved by two-tenths of a point, while Criminal Minds (2.4 adults) and CSI (1.7 adults) were unchanged from the previous week. The network placed second with 9.2 million viewers and a 2.2 rating with adults 18-49.
The X Factor suffered significantly from its musical competition. The Fox series averaged just a 1.5 rating with adults 18-49 and 4.5 million viewers in its live debut, even with last week’s special telecast but a low for a performance episode.
Revolution (1.4 adults) remained steady for the fourth week running, while Law & Order: SVU (1.5 adults) improved by a tenth and a special Dateline pulled a 1.1 with adults 18-49. NBC took a 1.3 rating with adults 18-49 and 5.1 million viewers.
Arrow (1.0 adults), up two-tenths, and an even The Tomorrow People (0.6 adults) averaged a 0.8 rating with adults 18-49 and 2.2 million viewers on The CW.
