Syfy is firming up the cast and producers on 12 Monkeys.
Aaron Stanford and Amanda Schull have been tapped to star in the drama pilot based on Terry Gilliam‘s feature film of the same name. Additionally, In Plain Sight‘s Natalie Chaidez has boarded the drama as showrunner and Jeffrey Reiner has been tapped to direct and exec produce.
Based on Universal Pictures’ feature film that starred Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, the drama centers on a time traveler from the postapocalyptic future who appears in the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.
STORY: ’12 Monkeys’ Adaptation Gets Pilot Order at Syfy
Stanford (Nikita, X-Men: The Last Stand) will play Cole, a desperate and haunted man from the near future who travels to the present day to stop the deadly plague from being released upon the world. Schull (Suits, Pretty Little Liars) will play Cassandra Railly, a brilliant doctor forced to choose between her idyllic life or joining Cole’s mission to uncover the dangerous conspiracy.
Feature film producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle of Atlas Entertainment — one of the production companies on board the Universal film — submitted the pitch and will executive produce the hourlong pilot. Terry Matalas (Nikita, Terra Nova, Star Trek: Enterprise) and Travis Fickett (Nikita, Terra Nova) will pen the script for the Universal Cable Productions venture. Production will begin in November.
For Stanford, the drama comes weeks before The CW will launch the final six episodes of Nikita, where he has been a regular for the past four seasons. His co-star, Shane West, recently boarded WGN America’s Salem. Stanford is repped by Daisy Wu, Management 360 and CESD.
Schull, who also guest-starred on Nikita, is repped by Innovative Artists and Sweeney Entertainment. Chaidez (The Client List, Necessary Roughness) is with UTA and Principato Young Entertainment; Reiner (Awake, The Event) is with WME, Peter Meyer and Morris Yorn.
