Proving there is a solid second-tier market for children’s 3D animated movies beyond the Pixar/DreamWorks/Blue Sky axis, Germany‘s Studio 100 has closed multiple territory deals for its kids titles Maya The Bee and Blinky Bill.
Maya the Bee, based on a beloved German children’s book of the same name first published in 1912, sold to Planeta Junior for Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Andorra and Cyprus; to Sejong Communications for South Korea and to Cinetel for Hungary. The film, which Alexs Stadermann is directing for Australian production company Flying Bark and which features the voice talents of Jacki Weaver, Noah Taylor and Miriam Margolyes, previously sold to Universum for all German-speaking territories, to Premium Films for Russia and the CIS, to Monolith Films for Poland and to Karantanija Cinemas for ex-Yugoslavia.

Blinky Bill, an adaptation of a hit Aussie kids book, also went to Sejong Communications for South Korea with Caravella Distribution taking all rights for Russia and the CIS.
“The sales illustrate the continuous popularity of well-known and much-loved brands and the rising demand for great family entertainment,” said Studio 100 Managing Director Patrick Elmendorff.
Studio 100 is betting big on 3D animated features based on its catalog of kids classics. Its upcoming slate also includes movie versions of Heidi and Vic The Viking.
