NEVADA CITY—
Nevada County Sheriff’s search and rescue crews are out in force looking for a missing San Jose man.
The operation was kicked into high gear after 65-year-old Walter Steever’s car was spotted by California Highway Patrol helicopter near Owl Creek Road in Nevada City.
Steever left home back on Oct. 23 and was supposed to come home over the weekend. Family reported him missing Monday when he didn’t show up, launching the effort that culminated in the CHP helicopter spotting Steever’s car.
Family told authorities that the place where the car was spotted is the usual spot Steever parks his car to walk down to the river.
Officers from Sacramento County, El Dorado County, Placer County, CHP and State Parks are all out helping with the search. The operation will continue until nightfall, if necessary.
