Captain America: The Winter Soldier Trailer No. 1 debuted with 17.6 million views on YouTube, according to internet monitoring service Zefr.
The sequel to the hit 2011 movie, which put the Star Spangled Avenger on the big screen for the first time, had the best opening week for any film since early summer.
Fall’s best opening week had been for Robocop, which recorded 16.1 million views the first week of September.
Another debut–Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues Trailer No. 2–held the second spot. The most recent coming attraction for the highly-anticipated Christmas comedy scored 3.9 million views.
Anchorman‘s first trailer for international audiences also debuted in the top ten, grabbing the sixth spot with one million views.
The movie about newsman Ron Burgundy (Will Farrell) and his goofy sidekicks played by Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and Fred Willard opens Dec. 20.
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa Trailer No. 1 had two 2.0 million YouTube views in the week which it opened in theaters to reach 24.8 million lifetime.
The Johnny Knoxville flick opened as the week’s biggest box office draw, grossing $32 million to lead the week’s money table.
300: Rise of An Empire Trailer No. 1 held the third spot with 1.2 million views (33.7 million lifetime). The swords-and-sandals epic, which is a sequel to 2007’s The 300 opens March 7.
Last week’s most-viewed trailer dropped to fifth. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones Trailer No. 1 notched just over one million views, down from its opening week’s 5.2 million views.
The lastest offering in the hit horror series arrives in theaters on Jan. 3.
The bottom four spots were held by trailers for Christmas movies with high numbers of lifetime views, even if their numbers for this week were low.
Running from sixth to tenth were: The Hunger Games Catching Fire Trailer No. 2 (912,214 weekly, 11.9 million lifetime), Thor: The Dark World Trailer No. 2 (762,837, 16.3 million), Thor: The Dark World Trailer No. 1 (642,685, 40.7 million) and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (636,771, 32.0 million).
Thor opens in theaters Nov. 8. The Hunger Games arrives two weeks later on Nov. 22. The Hobbit bows on Dec. 13.
