LONDON – Altitude Film Sales, the U.K. division of the British company set up by Will Clarke, will land at this year’s American Film Market with five projects on its slate, including the big screen version of the BAFTA-winning TV hit Spooks.
Named Spooks: The Greater Good, the big-screen version is produced by Elisabeth Murdoch‘s Shine Pictures and Kudos and is set to shoot in 2014.
The film will be directed by Bharat Nalluri, the original director of the TV series, as well as primetime dramas (Torchwood, Hustle) and the Golden Globe-nominated HBO movie Tsunami: The Aftermath.
Written by Spooks collaborators Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, the film will be produced by Jane Featherstone and Stephen Garrett, who were behind the TV series for BBC1, and Ollie Madden (Sherlock Holmes) for Shine Pictures.
It details the story of a charismatic terrorist who escapes from custody during a routine handover and plunges the British spy service into turmoil.
The cast includes series regular Peter Firth with casting ongoing.
Also on Altitude’s slate is The Last Word, starring Mike Doyle, who is soon to be seen in Clint Eastwood‘s Jersey Boys.
Billed as a chilling supernatural thriller based on an incredible true story from Red Blue & White director Simon Rumley, the cast also includes Erin Cummings (Spartacus: War of the Damned).
Buyers will be offered a documentary on the iconic Britpop band Pulp as they celebrate a reunion concert in the band’s hometown of Sheffield. Soda Pictures will be releasing the film in the U.K. with Hopscotch eOne rolling it out in Australia and New Zealand.
Also offered will be found footage of sci-fi mystery Hangar 10 from the producers of Creep, Severance and Triangle and directed by Daniel Simpson, and The Call-Up, a sci-fi action film marking the feature debut for commercials director Charles Barker and produced by ex-Working Title exec Matt Wilkinson alongside John Giwa-Amu (The Machine).
Altitude Film Sales managing director Mike Runagall will oversee the sales slate.
The sales slate comes just a day after Altitude said it is launching a U.K. theatrical distribution operation.
