RANCHO CORDOVA-

An explosion rocked the Aerojet Rocketdyne headquarters in Rancho Cordova Tuesday morning around 8 a.m., sending one employee to the hospital.

Officials spoke briefly to the media about four hours later, but offered few details.

Investigators did not say what exploded or what caused the explosion, but that there is no threat of another blast. One person was sent to the hospital, and another staff member was treated at the scene. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s bomb squad is calling the explosions an “industrial accident.”

Aerojet Rocketdyne made headlines just one day prior, having built equipment aboard NASA’s MAVEN satellite, which left the planet for Mars to study its atmosphere.

Reporters were not let onto the Aerojet Rocketdyne campus Tuesday morning.
