A little more than a month after Al Jazeera America reached a carriage deal with Time Warner Cable, the news network has officially been made available to customers on Friday.
The cable news network, backed by the royal family of Qatar, launched in the United States on Aug. 20 in roughly 49 million homes. With the addition of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks subscribers, Al Jazeera America says it now reaches 55 million homes. (For comparison, Fox News lists its reach at 90 million homes, MSNBC extends to 95 million and CNN lists over 100 million in the U.S.)

In August, AJAM had debuted with a full programming lineup, a slew of high-profile hires and the promise of more hard news coverage and fewer commercials. The network had enlisted Kate O’Brian, previously senior vp at ABC News, as its president and revealed plans for over a dozen U.S. news bureaus.
“We are very pleased that Time Warner Cable has agreed to include us in their lineup,” said Ehab Al Shihabi, AJAM interim CEO, in a Friday statement. “As always, we remain committed to providing in-depth, unbiased journalism, and we’re excited to work with Time Warner Cable to make our channel available to their customers.”
