Yuba River Poems & Prose: An ebook by local writer Pamela Biery

Pamela Biery is a local freelance writer. Her writing has been published by Sierra Heritage, Sierra magazine (the Sierra Club), Orion blog, Crosscut and Sacramento News & Review.

Pamela’s poem Epicurean Boughs appeared in The California Poetry Society’s Quarterly.

Now Pamela has written a digital chapbook, Yuba Poems & Prose, that will be out in March 2014 on iBooks. An early, unillustrated edition is now out for Kindle at Amazon.

We purchased the Kindle edition this week and enjoyed reading it. The poems, about places along the Yuba watershed, brought up our own pleasant memories of the region. The edition also is a reminder of the beauty and solitude of our own backyard, a world-class setting.

Here’s an example:

From North San Juan, through Bridgeport

Down the canyon
in blackest nights
mountains across
the abyss
like protective shoulders
block light from beyond.

Headlights wind
toward me
far below.

Hamonton Smartsville Road
to Highway 70

Rolling hills covered with poppies
and buttercups
meadowlark’s singing on the rusted
barbed wire
here is where we turn to hike

Poems:
A Rock for Edward
Abbey’s Gift
Swimming into Sunsets
Summer Reading Room
Lost Love Baptism
Natural Disappearance
Everywhere an ending is making a beginning
Hamonton Smartsville Road to Highway 70
From North San Juan, Through Bridgeport
Into Dragon’s Gate
Yuba Canyon

Prose:
Rarified Air
Truckee River Reflections

Twenty percent of more of the book proceeds will be donated to the South Yuba River Citizen’s League, in support of ongoing Yuba River Conservation programs.
