Lea Michele is gearing up for 2014 with the release of her second single.

The Glee actress and Broadway alum revealed “Battlefield” off of her debut album, Louder, out on Mar. 4.
The powerful ballad of a relationship on its last legs follows the release of her debut single, “Cannonball,” a mid-tempo track with lyrics of self-empowerment.
“Battlefield” puts the spotlight on Michele’s emotion-ridden vocals — an attribute of many of her top performances throughout her seasons on Glee — accompanying her haunting phrasing with minimal instrumentation. She sings in the chorus: “You and I, we have to let each other go / we keep holding on when we both know / what seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield.”
Like “Cannonball,” Michele’s second single was written by Sia, partnering with musician Larry Goldings. Goldings, who has worked with John Mayer, Norah Jones, James Taylor and Christina Aguilera, previously collaborated with Sia for her Colour the Small One album in 2004, as well as her 2008 release, Some People Have Real Problems.
The track was released on Dec. 28 as an iTunes digital download for those who preorder the Louder album.

Glee cast recordings have sold more than 10 million singles and have garnered more than 20 top 40 U.S. Billboard Hot 100 hits. In addition to Louder, Michele has her debut novel, Brunette Ambition, due in the spring. She next lends her voice to 2014’s animated 3D musical feature Dorothy of Oz, in which she plays Dorothy.
