After 21 years playing Sami Brady, Alison Sweeney will exit NBC’s long-running Days of Our Lives.
The actress, who also hosts The Biggest Loser for the network, made the announcement Tuesday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“I decided that it’s going to be my last year with the show,” she says in the clip below. “I’ve been on Days of Our Lives since I was 16 years old and I have never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time. … I love Sami, I love Salem, I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans, I love everything about it.”

“My daughter just turned 5 and my son is 9 and I just want to be with them and enjoy my last year,” she added.
While a formal date for Sweeney’s final episode has not yet been determined, the actress says she hopes her character — who has seen plenty of ups and downs over her two-decade run — deserves an epic ending.
“[She] probably deserves some sort of very twisted, like Breaking Bad ending,” she says. “Sami has certainly caused her fair share of drama over the last 21 years.”
Sweeney is a Daytime Emmy Award winner for America’s favorite villain. Watch Sweeney’s Ellen visit, below.
