SACRAMENTO-

An emergency landing turned into a spectacle for the Land Park neighborhood.

Monday morning joggers and families got an up-close encounter with a Sacramento Police Department helicopter.

The pilot said an emergency light turned on while he was flying, and protocol is for them to land as soon as its safe. Police are hesitant to call the landing an “emergency.”

That turned out to be in an open area of Land Park, near the baseball fields north of the Sacramento Zoo.

The chopper landed safely, and no one was hurt.

But the helicopter got the attention of passers-by, young and old, in the park.

Mechanics were called to the park to figure out what was wrong.
