The Black List is moving into TV. Turner Networks announced Monday that TNT and TBS have partnered with the curator of the annual list of unproduced screenplays on a new diversity search.
Submissions to the Black List website will now include episodic work for the first time ever. Submissions to the TNT and TBS initiative will be judged by the Black List’s community of industry professionals and readers. Among the five finalists, some will have the opportunity to sign script deals.
The Black List has led to more than 40 writers finding representation at major agencies and management companies, and more than 20 writers have sold their scripts as a direct result of introductions made on the site.
TNT and TBS, which will be searching for both half-hour comedies and full-hour dramas, will have the option to offer blind script deals and also the ability to share finalists’ work with current network showrunners in the hopes of landing staff positions for applicants.
“As we continue to expand the original programming lineups for TNT and TBS, it’s important that we forge partnerships not only with established producers but also with fresh talent,” said TBS, TNT and TCM president and head of programming Michael Wright. “We’re confident that through this initiative with the Black List, we’re going to find an abundance of exciting, highly creative work from a wide array of emerging writers.”
The Black List currently has deals with Writers Guild of America, both East and West, the Sundance Institute and Warner Bros Pictures.
