TORONTO – Thunderbird Films has reached a deal with Toronto theater company Soulpepper to develop and produce TV, movies and digital media content.
The joint venture will kick off with a feature film and TV series now in development based on Ins Choi‘s stage play Kim’s Convenience, which Soulpepper is touring in Canada. The partnership was unveiled on Tuesday by Albert Schultz, artistic director of Soulpepper Theater Company, and Tim Gamble, president and CEO of Thunderbird Films.
“I look at Soulpepper and marvel at what they have created in such a short time. Their ability to spot, nurture and develop multi-disciplinary theater talent is second to none,” said Gamble, who is also in business with Lionsgate on a Sea to Sky Entertainment venture.
Schultz founded Soulpepper 16 years ago, along with 11 other Canadian film, TV and stage actors. The company provides a blend of classical and contemporary stage productions.
