MEXICO CITY – Fox International Productions on Tuesday announced it has hired indie producer Raymundo Diaz-Gonzalez to oversee local productions in Mexico.
Fox is looking to up its production and distribution offerings for the Mexican market and the burgeoning U.S. Hispanic market.
“2013 was an extraordinary year for local films in Mexico and in the entire region,” Fox International Productions president Sanford Panitch said. “Additionally, the Hispanic population in the United States has grown to more than 50 million people, representing an additional opportunity for Latin films to find audiences beyond their original borders.”

Mexico is coming off a record-breaking year at the box office in 2013, with two local films ranking among the top 10 earners. What’s more, three Mexican productions cracked the U.S. market and performed exceptionally well.
One of those movies, Gaz Alazraki’s comedy Nosotros los Nobles (We are the Nobles), is the second-highest grossing Mexican picture of all time. Fox said it has inked a production deal with Alazraki and Nobles producer Leonardo Zimbron to develop multiple as-yet-unannounced projects.

Alazraki previously revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he is penning a sequel to Nobles. Diaz-Gonzalez executive-produced Nobles and rom-com Pulling Strings, two of the year’s biggest hits.
Mexico City-based Diaz-Gonzalez will report to Fox Latin America executive vp Eduardo Echeverria and 20th Century Fox Mexico chief Juan Carlos Lazo. He will acquire, co-produce and develop films.
Elsewhere in the region, Fox International Productions recently nabbed Latin American rights for the Antonio Banderas-starrer The 33, a film based on the 2010 rescue of trapped Chilean miners.
