Dame Helen Mirren has been named Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year for 2014.
The Oscar winner will be this year’s recipient of the annual award issued by the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the nation’s oldest theatrical organization. The release cites Mirren’s performances as having “garnered international critical acclaim.”
Mirren will be present at the Woman of the Year festivities, which begin at 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 30, with a parade through Cambridge. A roast will follow, before Mirren will be given her award at 4 p.m. at Farkas Hall. A press conference is scheduled after the presentation.
“How very saucy of the Hasty Pudding organization to offer me their award,” said Mirren. “As someone who adores Pudding in all its manifestations … Suet, Christmas, Treacle, Bread and Butter, Yorkshire, Plum, Figgy, etc., etc., I am so looking forward to the famous Hasty Pudding.”
The Woman of the Year honor is given to performers who have made lasting contributions to entertainment. Established in 1951, the Woman of the Year has been given to Meryl Streep, Katharine Hepburn, Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, Elizabeth Taylor, Anne Hathaway, Claire Danes and Marion Cotillard.
The Man of the Year recipient will be announced later and will be honored Feb. 7.
