“Kevin Spacey is one of our culture’s most exciting performers,” museum board of trustees co-chairman Herbert S. Schlosser said in a statement. “He has proven his talent and versatility in a wide range of memorable and award-winning roles, and is also an accomplished executive producer and director. This is a great time to be honoring him.”
Spacey currently stars and serves as executive producer on Netflix’s original series House of Cards, earning Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe nominations for his role. His production company, Trigger Street, produced the Oscar-nominated film Captain Phillips and Oscar winner The Social Network. Spacey has won two Oscars, for his performances in American Beauty and The Usual Suspects, and has also starred in Glengarry Glen Ross, L.A. Confidential, Margin Call, Horrible Bosses and the HBO film Recount, among other titles.
The actor, who also won a Tony for Lost in Yonkers in 1991, has been the artistic director of the Old Vic Theatre in London since 2004.
