Macklemore still gets chills when talking about his Grammys performance and the 33 weddings that occurred onstage as he and Ryan Lewis performed their hit, “Same Love.”
“It just gives me goosebumps to talk about it now, to watch the Staples Center just sort of erupt and stand up and participate in that ceremony,” he said on Tuesday’s Ellen DeGeneres Show. “It was magic.”

The Seattle rapper added that he got emotional during rehearsal and while performing the third verse of the song, as the couples started their procession.
Meanwhile, Lewis explained that the idea for the onstage weddings came from Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich‘s daughter, who’s a big fan of the group and knew that they often had people propose on stage, adding that the idea just grew from there. It was also Ehrlich’s idea to have Madonna perform with them, Macklemore added.
The duo also praised DeGeneres for her early support of “Same Love,” as they first hit the Ellen set with the song in October 2012.

“We have a lot of praise to show you because this was the first time we ever performed live on television,” Macklemore said. “You got behind ‘Same Love’ before anybody else did, before it was a radio song, before it was out there with the video and on MTV, you were behind it, so…”
And DeGeneres had another gift for the duo, giving the Seahawks fans special jerseys they could wear to the Super Bowl. The front of the blue-and-green jerseys reads, “Any Broncos fans win 4 Grammys this year?” And the back reads, “Didn’t think so…Go Seahawks.”
