Paramount TV is beefing up its roster.
The newly revived TV arm has inked a two-pilot development deal with Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer.
As part of the pact, he will write, direct and executive produce two drama pilots for the studio, which reopened in 2013 with Amy Powell tapped as president. Brewer has a long relationship with Paramount, with which he has done the 2011 Footloose reboot, the 2012 Katy Perry biopic Part of Me and the upcoming adaptation Gangster Princess of Beverly Hills.
“Craig’s ability to capture and authentically portray different cultural moments in time through his characters, narratives and singular musical taste make him one of the most inspired storytellers of this generation,” said Powell in a statement on Thursday. “I am proud of our friendship and the range of our collaborations over the last decade and look forward to expanding our creative endeavors with him to the television side of the studio.”

Added Brewer: “As the television industry continues to expand its boundaries and open more doors for raw and creative storytelling, I feel incredibly fortunate to be teaming up with Brad [Grey] and Amy, and the entire Paramount team.”
The studio, which reemerged in March 2013 with CBS’ Beverly Hills pilot, will look to harness existing Paramount properties as well as new projects from emerging and established players. The company had been out of the TV production game since the studio split from CBS in 2006. Powell was brought over from Paramount’s digital division, where she had been running point for two years.
Brewer, whose other credits include Black Snake Moan and The Poor & Hungry, is repped by WME and Bloom Hergott.
