MTV is expanding its original scripted drama roster.
The network has picked up family drama Finding Carter to series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The 12-episode drama centers on a teenager who learns that her mother abducted her as a child. Bones‘ Emily Silver penned the script based on an original idea and Terri Minsky exec produces. Skins alum Kathryn Prescott stars as Carter; Alexis Denisof, Milena Govich, Cynthia Watros, Anna Jacoby-Heron and Zac Pullam co-star, with Meredith Baxter and Robert Pine boarding the show in new recurring roles as Carter’s grandparents.
For MTV, Finding Carter joins Awkward and Teen Wolf and becomes the network’s third scripted drama series. The youth-skewing network will also bow comedies Happyland and Faking It this year as the Viacom-owned cabler continues its push into original scripted fare.
MTV programming president Susanne Daniels told The Hollywood Reporter in July that the network will likely green light one new drama series for 2014 and one or two more comedies to join the fourth season of Awkward.
With Carter‘s pickup, that leaves drama pilots Scream and Eye Candy both still in the mix. Casting on Scream has not yet begun.
A premiere date for Finding Carter has not yet been determined.
