TORONTO — Canadian factual producer Primitive Entertainment has inked a deal to purchase a minority stake in Essential 11 Television Canada.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed but are expected to give Primitive a near-one third stake in the Los Angeles-based joint venture between Australia-based Essential Media and Entertainment and Canada’s 11 Television.
The partners will then expand their joint push into factual entertainment, with Primitive bringing Canadian projects like Hell on Earth and Venom Hunters to Essential 11.
“Adding the business and international production expertise of Michael McMahon, Kristina McLaughlin and the Primitive team to this Canadian-controlled company provides a very solid foundation for its continuing success,” Chris Hilton, CEO of Essential 11 Media Group, said a statement.
Essential 11 Television Canada’s current factual slate includes Panic Button, now airing on TruTV; Fool’s Gold, a comedy docu-soap for Discovery Canada and Animal Planet; and Undercover Magic, a hidden-camera magic series in production with Fields Entertainment, also for Tru TV.
News of the Primitive tie-up with Essential 11 Television Canada was first revealed in Realscreen magazine.
