In case you're not familiar at all with the mod, Mass Effect: Unification is a total-conversion mod for Star Wars Battlefront II that adds the Mass Effect era to Instant Action. In summer of 2010, I played the demo for Mass Effect 2 after seeing it on Steam – I immediately then ran out and obtained a copy of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 for the PC (because console shooters are dumb). After completing the first game, I thought to myself, "Huh, certainly there must be a Mass Effect mod for Star Wars Battlefront II!" After failing to find such a mod, I completed my first map that I had been working on since February of that same year; I started working on the Sol Map Pack, released the pilot map, and in May of 2011, I started building the gargantuan project we all love and know as “Mass Effect: Unification.”
All assets have the minimum possible amount taken from licensed material, and do not impair sales of their respective games, nor do they misrepresent their respective copyright holders.
I thought this mod was dead, was shocked to see this pop up in my notification. Great work, as always.
Not dead, we just have other projects we're working on right now. ;) Thanks!
Took me all night to download it. Thank you for your dedication to keeping this mod alive.
Looks nice will try it at some point.:-)
Very awesome Marth, I appreciate your continued dedication to your Mass Effect Mod. The continued updates to this mod which includes the newer features, bug fixes, gameplay balancing, maps and anything else not mentioned will continue to make this mod better and better. Will there be a Version 7.0 Release with more content in the near future?
R7 is planned for the future, yep!
Ive definatly goofed, when i click on the setup it does nothing exept show me a close button. What have i screwed up.
Best Battlefront 2 mod
so i don't need vanilla battlefront 2 right ?
You absolutely do need the base game. This is a "standalone" release in the sense that it's not a patch for any previous release.
I believe you mean "Full" release, standalone tends to imply it has the necessary base files included.
Yeah, I've been considering changing the naming convention we've been using for it...
Is this the same content as Mass Effect: Unification R6.5 (Patch), just without the need to download R6 Standalone?
Thanks for your great work!!
Does this require the 1.3 patch?
Almost every mod on battlefront 2 does.
I am having a lot of trouble installing this on my windows 10 pc keeps on saying that theres a missing batchfile and flagdirectory please help
I have an issue I have downloaded the mod fully and followed the install instructions placing the mod files in my battlefront 2 game data folder. I am using steam and windows 10. When I open battle front 2 its just the base game and the configuration refuses to save any changes to settings.
why does this lag my game like crazy?
idk
Any map in particular?

what is carnage mode?
When Carnage mode is enabled, all damage inflicted and received is multiplied by some amount. Basically it makes the game faster-paced.
Hi
So I downloaded this mod just a few hrs ago & been playing a few games. My config tool keep giving an error pop up saying
"New(Byval fileName as String) (FlagInfo): Length cannot be less than zero.
Parameter name:length"
All options are greyed out. I don't seem t find an explanation in the provided FAQ so I'll post it here.
Other than that, I have no idea which map means who's fighting who. And for Geth vs Geth map, I have a hard time differentiating a friend & a foe. I do have a great time in a Alliance vs Geth/Collectors.
Every map supports every combination of factions.
Try running the config tool as administrator.
is this like a better version of the others? i haven't been able to play this mod, so idk if i need other versions or a patch, since i dont have any patches...basically, im kinda lost lol, it's installed and everything, i run the game, and it's still in Battlefront II, i also read the NOTE in the word document saying to select Mass Effect, but i dont see that option, sorry if i missed something, i went through every step in Word, least i think i did...
Make sure you have the official 1.1 patch and unofficial 1.3 patch installed.
for some reason after I finish installing this to the star wars battle front 2 directory and the mod opens the config menu it goes me a message saying that it can't find the xml file even though everything should be in the correct place then when I find it manually and click ok I get another message saying that it is unable to find the batch file(not sure what it is talking about) before coming here I tried to fix it myself by finding all the files manually but all that does is cause the mod to crash on the game start up screen and I don't know why. any ideas as to why this is happening the mod used to work for me a while back.
Try uninstalling the mod by running the uninstaller in the Start Menu folder called "Mass Effect Unification" and then reinstall the mod.
Not sure how it could've gotten into a crashy state. : o
When installing it doesn't include the batch file for the config, which leaves it in a state where it crashes just before the main Menu, even after uninstall.
Hi. The batch files are located in GameData/addon/ME5/data/_LVL_PC/bin/ and must be browsed for manually in some cases.
I get a 500 error when trying to download this... I wish I had made a backup of this mod when I had the chance. XD
Edit: Weird..it fixed itself after 6ish retries...?
Colour me impressed with what you've done so far. Unique UI, HuD and even voice acting. I'm willing to look past the obvious sound glitches, as they don't get in the way of playing the mod.
What does get in the way, however, is the installation process being a major pain with multiple attempts that ended with me giving the installer a folder on my desktop as a target and then manually cutting and pasting the files over that I needed.
This method proved to be more successful in another way, too: The config tool didn't spit out several error messages upon opening it. Which did happen each time I installed it directly to my Gamedata folder.
I should mention that I had the unofficial patch 3_130 already installed when I tried to install MEU. Upon booting the game, I noticed the UI being completely unusable due to elements being misplaced and overlapping each other. Then I installed the Remaster 1_5_r2 by Anakin and the UI was usable again.
Now, onto my gameplay impressions. Firstly, I played Alliance vs Heretic Geth, as ME1 was the only game in this whole trilogy that I liked and I wanted an experience reminiscent thereof. I didn't quite get that with the magazine reload mechanic, but I'm willing to look past that. Maybe a future update can add an option to the config tool that adds a boolean switch for magazine/overheat.
I liked the idea of remaking Polis Massa into Noveria, but it didn't quite capture the atmosphere. Polis Massa is one of my most hated base game maps, so I was surprised how good the conversion turned out. I did play the Geth on this map and lost despite making 105 kills. I had won the previous match as Alliance on Aeia Island with only 96 kills. Which either hints at an AI problem or a balancing problem between the 2 factions. TDM on Skyway was pretty fun, as you're nonstop engaged in action without much running. My suggestion for improving this map would be to scale up the Skyway so that it's as big, relative to the player, as it was in ME1, and randomise the spawn locations.
After the crash I proceeded to tweak a few settings in the Config Tool before trying out Eden Prime and Virmire, which I wanna mention as they fixed the audio glitches.
I disabled both Low Health and Enemy Killed Feedback sounds and changed the Player Damaged and Hit Marker sounds to Quiet.
Other changes that I made unrelated to the audio are switching out the Geth for the Collectors as well as Shepard for Jack. All in all, I will say that all 3 factions that I've tried thus were fun to play as.
It should go without saying that I am looking forward to this mod being expanded upon in the future. There is a lot of potential in this.
One thing worth pointing out is that despite being listed as a feature in the mod description, the ConfigTool doesn't actually allow to change Shepard's class.
Thanks for all the feedback!
I'm not really sure what you're referring to by "obvious sound glitches."
ConfigTool should definitely be successfully changing Shepard's class, that's confirmed working on everyone else's end. The configuration might not be saving for some odd reason.
I ended up uninstalling it to try out other mods, but I'll give it another go to see if I can reproduce the audio glitches that I had. Don't remember off the top of my head and didn't think to record, either. Maybe my installation was just buggy due to leftover files from other mods I hadn't properly cleaned up.
So, what did I do differently this time? I uninstalled SWBF2 entirely and redownloaded all game files. Why? I had installed Anakin's Remaster mod, which overwrites game files. So I figured my previous installation problems were due to that. This time, everything worked out without a hitch first try. The ConfigTool didn't give me any errors whatsoever upon launching it. So I tweaked a few things and booted up the game. And the Instant Action menu interface was in complete disarray. The Settings list to the left protruding into the map list, the preview image and its frame were separated, the whole background didn't fit the UI.
I tried all 3 styles in the Tool. Didn't fix it. I tried the newcomer profile. Didn't fix it. So I ran the 1.3 patch r30 installer (for the first time after reinstallation), to no avail. Next, I ran 4 matches, trying to work around the buggy interface as best as possible.
Noveira: The in-game menu doesn't reflect the difficulty settings from the CfgTool, so I lowered it to Veteran. This helped me turn the tide.
Skyway: Seems to me, the reason why there are 2 fixed spawn sides is that it's trying to emulate a canonically plausible combat encounter. It's TDM, so I'd stick with my previous suggestion. For the simple reason that it's really easy to spawn trap the enemy. Even by accident. A conquest map set inside one of Feros' towers could be interesting with 3 levels and 6 CPs spread across. I'm thinking in the direction of Jabba's Palace here. Minus the Rancor pit ;)
Virmire: Now I can nail down what I must've originally perceived to be the "obvious sound glitches". Occasionally all sound effects would cut out beside the ones for getting hits/kills. But that's probably intended for warning the player about being low on health.
Also reading back my original comment, the perceived sound glitches ceased when I disabled, among other things, low health feedback. I now remember this is emulating ME2 & 3, where sound also muffles out as you get to your last breath.
Eden Prime: It was now time to try and see if Anakin's Remaster can fix the menu interface misalignment. And it did. Mostly. The frame for the map preview was still slightly off the preview image but the other elements were all in place. Only thing "off" was the main menu background ("Campaign" tab") had switched to the default SW one (while I had the ME3 background after initial installation).
So. I'm not sure if I did anything wrong during installation or if you just forgot to add Anakin's Remaster to the installation instructions. Curious to hear back on that one.
