Nevada City School of the Arts’ “A Matter of Taste” on March 8: Whimsical & Elegant

ACROSS THE STATE, charter schools are booming and educating students with their unique traits. Celebrating its 20th anniversary starting this fall, Nevada City School of the Arts is one of the state’s first charter schools.

The school serves 350 kindergarten through eighth-grade students and is dedicated to keeping the arts in education—a real challenge to public schools nowadays.

“The Arts—music, dance, theater and the visual arts—are crucial to the complete education of a child,” reads its philosophy statement.

For 16 years, Nevada County has gathered to celebrate and support the Nevada City School of the Arts’ comprehensive arts and environmental programs at a whimsical and elegant event.

This year’s “A Matter of Taste” is on Saturday, March 8, at the historic Miners Foundry Cultural Center in Nevada City. It is one of the foothills’ most creative and enjoyable fundraisers, helping to cover the school’s rent and other costs.

The food and wine extravaganza features wines from local vintners, food from local caterers, live music and hundreds of unique auction items.

This year’s items include Sierra vacation rentals, a year’s worth of dairy products from Organic Valley, an original drawing by Senator Dianne Feinstein and more. A list of the auction items and ticket information is here.

Last year, Avanguardia, Lucchesi and Szabo poured wines, paired with delicious hors d’oeuvres. Artwork by local artists, such as Kathryn Wronski, Sheila Cameron and Katie Wolff, also has been included in the auction.
