TORONTO – Super-indie Argonon has acquired U.K. specialist factual TV producer Windfall Films.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed on Thursday, but the acquisition will see Argonon, which has outposts in London, New York, Vancouver and Los Angeles, help drive Windfall Films’ expansion into North America.
The deal also extends Argonon’s reach in factual TV genres like history, military, adventure, science and natural history.

David Dugan, CEO and co-founder of Windfall Films, is to join the Argonon board and will join fellow directors Ian Duncan, Carlo Massarella and Kristina Obradovic in taking an unspecified stake in the super-indie.
“Argonon will offer Windfall the creative license and international expertise, within a collaborative and supportive environment, to achieve their international growth ambitions, with a major focus on the North American market,” said James Burstall, CEO of Argonon, in a statement.
Burstall added that, having launched in 2011, Argonon was on target to reach, as part of a five-year plan, a group turnover of £100 million (US $166 million) in 2016.

Windfall, which specializes in multi-platform projects, has a slate that includes The Murder Trial for Channel 4, The Wonder of Dogs for BBC2, Big Bigger Biggest for National Geographic and Railroad Alaska for Destination America.
Windfall’s Dugan, in his own statement, said Burstall “fully supports our wish to maintain our unique creative ecology, while at the same time helping us to build on the growth we’ve been enjoying over the past few years.”
Windfall will continue to operate out of its east London headquarters, and joins other factual producers in the Argonon tent that includes Leopard Films, Remedy Productions, Transparent Television, the documentary joint venture BriteSpark Films and the Vancouver-based joint venture Remedy Canada.
