Speakers from Communities for a Better Environment and Tar Sands Action SoCal will present on local tar sands and fracking issues including health impacts, environmental injustice, proposed projects, and the global connection. They will also propose ideas on how to move away from dirty fossil fuels and toward clean energy. Our workshop will be in English y Espanol. Bring reusable water bottles. Treats will be served.

HANDS ACROSS THE HARBOR STARTS AT 11:30 a.m.
Location: Wilmington Waterfront Park
C Street and King Ave in Wilmington, CA

Following the Community Workshop, we will start gathering at Wilmington Waterfront Park around 11:30 a.m. The park is located on "C" Street in Wilmington, CA at the Los Angeles Harbor. We will gather near the corner of "C" Street and King Ave. To get there take "C" Street Exit off the 110 South Freeway, turn Right on Figueroa St, Left on W. Harry Bridges Blvd, First Left (unnamed street), and Right on W. C Street.

WHAT TO BRING:
Remember to bring reusable water bottles (plastic bottles will not be provided), any signs or posters you want, sunblock, hat, and camera.

WHY WILMINGTON / LOS ANGELES HARBOR

Although the Harbor does not necessarily have sandy area in which to gather, its massive refineries and oil infrastructure overlooks the ocean. The Port of Los Angeles, one of the most fossil-fuel polluted communities in the country, is now undergoing fresh threats from tar sands shipping and refining, as well as a regional uptick in hydraulic fracturing (Fracked Natural Gas). What better place to stand together in solidarity with the local impacted communities. We will gather on a nearby bridge so that we can look beyond the oil infrastructure and out onto the beautiful Ocean.
