Cate Blanchett is one of the stars of the new film The Monuments Men, and the actress is also up for an Academy Award, but following the tragic death of her friend Philip Seymour Hoffman, she has been trying to stay out of the spotlight.
Blanchett was set to appear on two morning shows on Wednesday: Good Morning America and Live! With Kelly and Michael. The actress’ reps said that the interviews were canceled “to allow Cate the time and privacy to grieve for the loss of her friend Philip Seymour Hoffman.”

Hoffman and Blanchett co-starred in The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Blanchett also didn’t do any red-carpet interviews at Tuesday’s Monuments Men premiere in New York, arriving shortly before the screening began and posing for photographs before quickly walking into Manhattan’s Ziegfeld Theater.
The actress will appear with the rest of the film’s cast on Thursday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, but that interview was taped before Hoffman’s death, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Blanchett is up for a best actress Oscar for her work in Blue Jasmine. The film’s director, Woody Allen, recently found himself the subject of renewed allegations that he sexually assaulted his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow when she was seven years old.
Blanchett was asked about Farrow’s claims, made in an open letter published on The New York Times website, at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, where she said, “It’s obviously been a long and painful situation for the family and I hope they find some resolution and peace.”
