BERLIN – Jean Reno has joined the cast for Gerardo Olivares’ The Way of the Eagle, a movie that combines scripted narrative with wildlife footage. Reno joins Spain’s Manuel Camacho, the star of the 2012 Spanish box-office hit Among Wolves, in the English-language drama.
Billed as a “powerful tale of hope and discovery,” the script tells the story of a troubled boy, Lukas (Camacho), and an abandoned eagle chick. Lukas finds the chick, which has been thrown out of the nest by his older brother, names him Abel, and together they struggle to find a new beginning.
Reno will play a mountain man who forms a bond with the troubled young man.
Using wildlife footage captured over four years in the mountain ranges of Austria and South Tyrol by wildlife directors Otmar Penker and Gerald Salmina, the movie is scheduled to begin shooting in June, with delivery scheduled for early 2015.
Walter Koehler, CEO of Vienna-based Terra Mater Factual Studios, predicted that the combination of the wildlife footage and the script “will resonate with audiences.” The company is a division of Red Bull Media House.
Producer Joanne Reay added: “We are delighted that Jean Reno is on board to bring to the project the passion and authenticity for which he is renowned.”
Handling world sales at the EFM in Berlin is former Icon executive Anthony Buckner.
Terra Mater was created as the new home of the former production team of Universum, the natural history and science unit of Austrian public broadcaster ORF.
